Proton Recalls Savvy To Address Possible Wheel Bearing Problem

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (Bernama) — Proton is recalling its Savvy cars to address the possibility of water entry into the rear wheel bearing which could lead to a malfunction of the affected components.

“The safety and satisfaction of our customers is a primary concern. As a precautionary measure, we are recalling all Savvy’s for inspection and repair.

We do apologise to all Savvy owners for any inconvenience,” managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said in a statement here Monday.

The recall will affect 34,000 Savvy cars and Proton will conduct the necessary checks and replacements at no cost to the customer.

Proton said all Savvy owners are advised to take their cars to the nearest Proton Edar or EON service branches for an inspection.

“This recall is purely a precautionary measure as the convenience and safety of customers is Proton’s highest priority,” Proton said.

Customers are encouraged to immediately contact the nearest service branches for an appointment to have their cars inspected. As an alternative, they can call Proton i-Care at 1-300-880-888.

Hmmmm…well well well, finally Proton has admitted that there is something really wrong with the Savvy’s problematic rear bearing after all. It took them long enough to admitted. I for one am glad that current CEO of Proton, Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed, has the guts to apologize to all Savvy owners for this boo-boo unlike the previous CEO before him.

As for me, I am going to send my Savvy to EON Service Centre near my house for the precautionary checks.

The Renault Kangoo…. March 12, 2008

I’ve been eying on this Renault Kangoo for a very long time even before I bought my Savvy. The thing I like about the Kangoo or affectionally known as ‘Goo’ is the acres of space. I mean you can fit a baby elephant comfortably into this minivan. The design of the ‘Goo’ may be offensive to some…but heck…beauty is in the eye’s of the beholder and to me the ‘Goo’ looks cute without being offensive. It’s has sliding rear passenger doors, left and righ. Some versions came with airplane style overhead stowage compartments. Now that’s practicality for you and man I could stash a pile of stuffs in the ‘Goo’.

Also recently, our local distributor TC Eurocars had unveiled the diesel version of the ‘Goo’ which I reckon it’s a wise move. Why ? diesel engines are very economical to run compared to petrol engines and modern diesel engines have plenty of low-end torque. Too bad though, the diesel ‘Goo’ is only meant for commercial registration…bummer…

But what put me off was not of the price but the recent discontinuation of the manual gearbox version. For some odd reason, but I reckon due to market preference, TC Eurocars, had decided to only sell the Kangoo with an automatic transmission. Now I am not against automatics but I don’t quite rate the French as being experts in design automatic gearboxes as compared to the Japanese. Regards to serviceability, I reckon there’s plenty of mechanics who may not speak french but sure know who to troubleshoot a problematic french gal…he he he..

Viva la France…

The current version of the ‘Goo’…

2 Cups of Coffee March 7, 2008

Below is an email message from my colleague that conveys a message about priorities in life….
———————————————–

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “yes.”

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things–God, your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions–and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else–the small stuff.”

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

“Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first–the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”

It’s K H I M and not K I M lah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! March 7, 2008

Why is it so difficult for people to either pronounce or spell my name correctly ?

Chin Khim Foh

My surname, Chin, is relatively easy to pronounce and spell. But most of the time people mis-pronounce my middle name, Khim, which the correct pronunciation is ‘kheem’ as ‘keem’…I hate it when they do that…it irks me to death…it makes me cringe..it makes me fuming mad.

Not only that at times they (I shall not mention their names) conveniently misspell my middle name Khim as Kim!!!! and this is after I wrote my name correctly in a form.

So my question to you all is, have you ever encounter such incidents where people, be it your friends or colleagues either mispronounced or mis-spelled your name countless times ?

Ain’t easy being an airline pilot….. March 4, 2008

This has got to be the most scariest moment for the pilot and the passengers. As you can see the pilot had a difficult time landing the plane no thanks to the crosswinds. These pilots are the best in my opinion. They managed to come out from an extremely difficult landing attempt. Hats off to them.
