Instant Oats… June 17, 2008

In response to my recent annual medical check up report which stated that my bad cholesterol is just above the threshold, I’ve decided to embark on a morning healthy eating regime comprising of nothing but oats – Instant Quaker Oats (red packet) to be more precise. Actually I’ve been eating instant oats almost every morning for the past 10 years and it can be said that I have successfully acquired a taste for this sort of breakfast meal. Ask me to eat it for lunch and dinner and I’ll say “HELL NO!!!”.
Preparation is quite simple.
- Add 4 – 5 table spoons of instant oats into a bowl
- Add one teaspoon of sweetened milk
- Add boiling hot water and wait for the oats to “break up”
- Stir continuously until it you reached a smooth consistency of whipped cream
- Add raisins for additional taste.
Looks kinda appetising eh ?

That was what Ee Ee happily said to me as I was just in front of the main door entrance of my mother in laws house about to go in. She was at the dining room area and rushed towards me holding something in her small hands trying her best to conceal it from me. As I stepped through the main door, Ee Ee, wearing the biggest smile I’ve ever seen, dished out the something she was trying her best to conceal it. I took a look and couldn’t contain my surprise. My heart just totally melted.
Ee Ee made me a Father’s Day present. At first I couldn’t decipher or tell what was the present she made for me. So I asked her: -
Me : What is it Ee Ee ?
Ee Ee : It’s orange in colour Papa…and it got err..
Me : I know..its orange in colour..but what is it ?
Ee Ee : Teacher told us to make it for Father Day..
Me : Okay, but what is it ?
Ee Ee : It made of toilet paper….
Me : Is it ?? Hmmm…I didn’t know woh..
Ee Ee : You like ah Papa ?
Me: Yes I do..
Finally I found out that what Ee Ee made for me for Father’s Day is a pencil holder made out of toilet paper roll coloured in bright orange. I just love it like how I love Ee Ee.
So for you father’s out there..
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!!
It’s finally done and only in 6 hours… June 14, 2008

Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy. I never knew house work could take that long !!!!
For only one day – thank god lah , I had to do whatever it takes to make my humble home as squeaky clean as possible. Which means I had to : -
- Sweep and mop all the floors.
- Wash all the floor mats by hand (me wife does not permit the use of washing machine except for only clothes).
- Change all the bedding sets – well only one for the bed in the master bedroom.
- Wipe clean all the tables, cabinets, cupboards.
- Wash (well it was done by the washing machine) and hang the clothes.
And I did all those in only 6 hours…I should give myself a pat on the back. But I reckon I could have done it in under 3 hours had I not stop and sat down to watch the telly.
I even think I’ve done a much better job at cleaning the house than my maid. But then she had to do the ironing and occasional cooking as well.
Now some of you may ask, “Eh, why all of the sudden you wanna play housewife ?” Well it’s not that I wanna play housewife, is more like I had to be a housewife for a day because my wife was away over the weekend attending a training session conducted by her company somewhere in place called Janda Baik. Not sure where this place is but she told me it’s near Genting Highlands lah.
My two young kids and my maid who normally be in our house over the weekend was at my mother-in-laws house. So I had the unfortunate duty of cleaning the house loh.
If you ask me to do it every weekend – housework that is, I wouldn’t wanna do it because it’s quite tiring and my back aches from all that mopping.
I am glad that my maid will be taking over the cleaning duties
I am bored!!!! June 12, 2008

It’s been exactly 10 months that I have been working for this new company and personally, I think it has been a big waste of my frigging time. No doubt the pay is good, the work is just plain boring. There’s nothing much to do but to :-
- Sit in front of the computer reading online articles latest happenings in the IT world – especially on internet and networking security and the latest development of WIMAX.
- Writing and revising SOPS (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Conduct hourly checks on my computer servers so that it won’t go nuts on me.
- having meaningful chat sessions with my office colleagues – well more like gossiping lah
- Occasional digging for gold
Yes folks – it’s that frigging boring
Then some of you may say “Aiyoh..liddat..find another job loh”. Yeah right!!! How I wish it was that easy to find another job. I ain’t getting any younger and IT jobs are hard to come by nowadays – well there’s plenty of IT jobs out there but whether they are willing to pay your salary that you want it’s another thing all together.
But the first few months joining this new setup was hectic and exciting. I mean as an person in charge of the company’s IT infrastructure, I had to help set it from the ground up. But I could not have done it all by myself without the help of our IT vendors and in all honestly they did one heck of a job. I had tons of fun during the first few months on the job, learning all the tricks from the IT Vendors.
Time flies oh so slowly when you’ve got nothing much to do – or you’ve got nothing challenging to do. Yes, I am that type of person. I need something to keep my brain cells from dying on me. So to keep my brain cells from dying on me, I am gonna think of something to keep my mind occupied during the time when I’ve got nothing much to do during office hours. Gimme some time to think ya
The price of petrol…. June 5, 2008
Posted by khimfoh in Personal, Rants.3 comments
As at today, petrol price will cost you 0.78sen per litre more – which means I have to fork out additional RM20+ for a full tank of unleaded petrol and the increase comes as shock for me.
The repercussion of the price hike is going to be felt very soon in the coming months. Inevitably prices of food, services, transportation – almost everything will go up. Electricity rates will go up by 18%. Water ? not sure yet but I reckon it will go up to.
As you can all see, we are quite dependent on fossil fuel. It’s what drives the economy of the world. Without it, will be caught with our pants down. We’ll be in chaos. Everything will grind to a halt. Sounds scary eh ?
As for me, I have to tighten my belt and spend only on things which my family needs and not wants. I guess I have to drive economically as well…something which I am not to fond of doing.

PUTRAJAYA: The pump price for petrol is now RM2.70 per litre and diesel RM2.58 a litre following a cut in the fuel subsidy.
The increase of 78 sen per litre for petrol and RM1 a litre for diesel still leaves their prices 30 sen below the market rate.
Announcing the hike, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said a 30-sen subsidy per litre will prevail on pump prices, and will be used as an “automatic adjuster” in tandem with fluctuations in the world oil price.
The government will make the adjustments monthly.
To cushion the price increase, cash rebates will be given to owners of cars and motorcycles, based on engine capacity, through post offices from July 1.
These rebates will be given to owners of vehicles with road tax renewed between April 1 this year and March 31 next year.
Those who have already paid their road tax should produce their vehicle registration details at a post office and Pos Malaysia will issue them a money order.
Vehicles with large engine capacities will be levied a lower road tax from June 1.
The rebates will cost the government about RM5 million this year.
From today, the price of subsidised diesel will be standardised at RM1.43 per litre for fishermen, boat owners and transport operators.
Previously, subsidised diesel was priced at RM1 per litre for fishermen, RM1.20 for boat owners and RM1.43 for transport operators.
Prices for cooking gas (liquefied petroleum gas or LPG) and natural gas for vehicles (NGV) remain unchanged at RM1.75 for every kg of LPG and 63.5 sen for every litre of NGV.
This involves Petronas restructuring its gas subsidy from July 1 for the peninsula whereby it will raise gas prices for energy producers and industrial users.
The government will save RM13.7 billion from the restructured package.
Out of this amount, RM7.5 billion will go towards subsidising prices of petrol, diesel and gas.
The rest will be spent on food security (RM4 billion), cooking oil subsidies (RM1.5 billion), standardising the price of rice in Sabah and Sarawak (RM0.4 billion), flour subsidies (RM0.2 billion) and bread subsidies (RM0.1 billion).
Abdullah said even after the fuel price increase and restructuring, the government would still have to spend about RM18 billion to pay for the difference between the pump prices and the world price.
Reiterating his call for Malaysians to change their lifestyle and be more prudent, Abdullah said they should try to spend less in all areas.
“This is something that is happening all over the world. We are not lifting the subsidies totally as we are still subsidising petrol and other items like cooking oil.”
He said efforts were being made to improve the public transport system.
Acknowledging that the fuel price increase would not go down well with the public, Abdullah said the government could no longer sustain the rising price of oil.
“I am not out to be popular. We try our best, and this is something we are very serious about, but naturally people will not be happy.”
Fuel subsidy scheme
- 30 sen subsidy for petrol and diesel
- Automatic monthly adjustment in petrol and diesel prices, in line with global prices
- Annual cash rebate of RM625 for owners of private vehicles with an engine capacity of up to 2,000cc, and pick-up trucks and jeeps up to 2,500cc
- Annual cash rebate of RM150 for owners of motorcycles with a 250cc engine or less
- Road tax discount of RM200 for owners of private vehicles with engine capacities above 2,000cc
- RM50 road tax discount for motorcycles with engines above 250cc
- Fishermen, boat owners and transport operators will get diesel at RM1.43 per litre
- Each Malaysian fishing vessel owner will receive RM200 monthly
- Fishing vessel owners will get incentive of 10 sen for every kilogramme of catch landed
Where the RM13.7b savings will go
- RM7.5 billion goes back as subsidies for petrol, diesel and gas
- RM4 billion for food security
- RM1.5 billion for cooking oil subsidies
- RM400 million for standardising price of rice in Sabah and Sarawak
- RM200 million for flour subsidy
- RM100 million for bread subsidy
Wah…so big ah this playground!!!! June 2, 2008

These were the words which came to my mind when I saw how huge the playground in Taman Tasik Perdana, Kuala Lumpur was.
Last Saturday, I decided to bring my family (Ee Ee and Wei Han, me wife and me maid) to Taman Tasik Perdana, Kuala Lumpur because :-
- I was bored to death at home.
- Window shopping at shopping complexes ain’t fun anymore.
- My kids are playground addicts.
- I wanted to polish my photography skills
So off we went, crammed into my budget, compact, city car to Taman Tasik Perdana. The journey took only 30minutes – yep 30 minutes from Kajang to KL – on a weekend some more.
The layout of the playground site was quite impressive to say the least and it was properly thought of and constructed. Each playground site had it’s own theme and each site was either located close by or was linked via a scaled down model of suspension bridge !!!..so cool !!! There were plenty of tunnel slides (some were shaped at awesome angles), see-saws, swings and what not.
Ee Ee who was being accompanied by my maid rush to the playground, went to all the playground sites and boy was she happy, smiling and laughing all the way. Wei Han was in his element. I mean he literally went bonkers!!!! He couldn’t contain his excitement any longer and wanted to come down from mommy’s arms. And once he was on the ground, he ran like a crazed deranged toddler. Mommy couldn’t catch up with him and neither could I.
Overall, we were happy at least the kids were. Mommy was exhausted as she had to keep up with Wei Han but she was in her element, making sure two kids drank plenty of water, wiping off their sweats….the usual mommy work. I, on the other hand, was simply enjoying every moment with my family. It was so heart-warming to see Ee Ee and Wei Han, running around, playing, laughing – basically having the time of their lives.
Photos will be uploaded shortly…;)

This playground theme is huge !!!

Wei Han can’t decide on which playground he wants..

..and when he did decide, he doesn’t know what to do..

..after playing under the hot late afternoon sun, it’s time to cool down …
